Vieux Carré

The drink’s name means French Quarter, the boisterous neighborhood in New Orleans where the drink was invented at the Hotel Monteleone. It’s another classic cocktail that has its roots in the Big Easy.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz Benedictine liqueur subs yellow Chartreuse or Strega
  • 1/2 oz rye whiskey
  • 1/2 oz cognac
  • 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
  • bitters Peychaud
  • bitters Angostura
  • lemon twist

Instructions

  • Stir Benedictine liqueur, rye whiskey, cognac, sweet vermouth, 1 dash each Peychaud's and Angostura bitters, and ice in a chilled old-fashioned glass.
  • Garnish with a lemon twist.
